Winwood Children’s Center in Ashburn, Virginia
Nestled near the Potomac River and just inland from Chesapeake Bay, the town of Ashburn abounds with history; it is, after all, just thirty miles northwest of Washington, D.C. Kids here have endless opportunities to learn about our nation’s history. But some of their earliest learning experiences unfold at Winwood Children’s Center, where the worlds of infants, toddlers, and young children expand through fun-filled exploration and discovery each and every day.
About Winwood Children’s Center in Ashburn, Virginia
Colorfully decorated classrooms and warm, caring teachers welcome Winwood kids every morning. Throughout the day, children learn about nature and science in our signature Growing Up Wild and Lego Engineering programs; distant lands and languages in our Spanish program; and melodies and dance in our Music program. Since we understand that infants and toddlers can become frustrated when they aren’t yet able to verbally articulate all of their needs and emotions, we teach them American Sign Language in our Baby Signs program. Our lush lawns and bright, colorful playgrounds beckon to children at break time, allowing them to stretch their growing bodies, explore their vivid imaginations, and socialize with pals.

Accreditation is a mark of excellence that is awarded by an independent, third-party organization (NAEYC) when a center proves that it continuously maintains high standards of quality in early childhood education and care. For families, that mark of excellence has real meaning. To earn accreditation, a center goes through a rigorous evaluation process to ensure it meets standards of excellence that go above and beyond the state’s minimum licensing requirements.
Accreditation means that a center is meeting high national standards in teaching strategies, curriculum, assessment of children’s learning, health and safety, developing relationships with families, community involvement, administration, and teacher qualifications. To maintain our accredited status, we must continually demonstrate these standards in early childhood education and care.
Accreditation fosters a culture of reflection and continuous improvement, less than 10 percent of all child care centers, preschools, and kindergartens nationally achieve this recognition.
We are very proud of our program and most of all of our teachers!
Winwood Children’s Center in Ashburn operates under the philosophy that children need to be treated with warmth & respect. We make it a priority at Winwood in Ashburn for our kids to be surrounded with experiences that foster physical, social, academic, emotional, and cognitive growth.
What Makes Us Unique
The educational background and experience of teachers and the size of the classrooms are essential to the quality of a preschool and early childhood learning program. Winwood Children’s Center in Ashburn provides both. Acquiring competent, productive, and forward-looking teachers is key to ensuring our kids are receiving the best early education possible. To that end we provide extensive training, as well as growth incentives to help teachers discover and reach their true potential, as well as that of their students. Plus, the small student-to-teacher ratios in our classrooms allow our teachers to build a close rapport with the children and their families.
Our dedication to our students’ scholastic success doesn’t stop when the school bell rings. Since studies have shown many children spend hours a day watching TV and playing video games, as well as much time alone while parents are at work, we offer a warm, enriching, and fun place for Winwood and local elementary school students to come before and after school. During these morning and afternoon hours, extended academic learning is encouraged to help improve grades. We’re also proud to keep them safe, which benefits working families and has a positive effect on the entire community. We encourage not only their academic development but also their participation in team sports by sponsoring numerous local youth teams.
